About the Library

Taita Taveta National Polytechnic Library also known as Prof. Justin Irina Library was officially opened on 2nd October 2009 and has grown tremendously over the years. The library's primary responsibility is to identify and meet the information needs of the Polytechnic community in a timely and effective manner. The library provides user-centered service, which embraces the use of new technologies as well as traditional learning materials to enable and enrich the teaching, learning and research endeavors of the Polytechnic. The Library is composed of the following Service Points and Sections:

  • Luggage Area
    For safe Keeping of Patron Bags
  • Information and Circulation Section
    Borrowing and returning of library's books and answering patrons' questions are carried out in this section.
    This section also has reference materials. These materials are borrowed to be read within the library.
  • Newspaper Reading Section
    Physical newspapers are read from here
  • Digital Resource Center
    Computers in the DRC room are for academic purposes like accessing e-resources
  • Study Reading Area
    This section has tables and chairs for Reading and studying.
  • OPAC Area
    Used for searching for information on books in the library.

The Library is adequately stocked with both print and electronic resources to ignite the wisdom growth of the students and is frequently updated with new books and other useful study material for students from diverse streams.

The library provides a high-quality study environment for users, combining collections, ICT and reprographic facilities under one roof; delivered by professional and highly skilled staff. The Library is equipped with current and diverse collection of resources ranging from books, newspapers, research projects and reference materials. In line with the changing library needs, the library has subscribed to electronic books and can be accessed by our users through our website whether on or off campus. This caters for all our users including our E-learning students who may not have an opportunity to visit the physical library.
